Practical Matters for Teens
Some transitions into adulthood must be handled differently for homeschooled teens compared to their traditionally schooled peers. This workshop will explore these topics: Work Permits, Driver’s Education, California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE), diplomas and transcripts, community college dual enrollment, applying directly to university after homeschooling, graduation and celebration!

Preparing for standardized tests -- like the SAT, ACT, and AP exams -- can be a daunting prospect for homeschooled students and their families. In this workshop we will  help you navigate the test-taking maze by demystifying these exams (particularly the SAT and ACT which have both changed significantly in recent years), identify great resources to help students prepare for these important tests, and help families develop timelines for what to take and when.

If you or your teen are feeling overwhelmed by or curious about the Personal Statement that is often a requirement for entry into universities or for scholarship applications, join author Elana K. Arnold for an overview of how to approach it. Elana has helped hundreds of teens write statements that they feel accurately represent who they are and where they want to go—for college admissions, scholarship opportunities, and and even for personal insight. Réka and Lalika would be very honored to share the very practical aspects of taking brilliant ideas, the things teens are passionate about in learning, and how you can create and transform them into ventures that will inspire and sustain them in their ongoing journey of learning and discovery.
In this 50 minute roundtable, Réka and Lalika will share their stories, what inspired them in their learning, and what they practically did to follow their passions and turn them into ventures from which they continue their tertiary life-learning experiences.
